Hoppy for you!

We made this card at my workshop on Friday night - it is the circle window with frame tutorial I found on someone's blog and for the LIFE of me, I cannot figure out where I found it! If I find it, I will edit this post with the link!!! ETA: "anonymous" reminded me that it was from Kristina Werner's design blog...AND it reminded me that it was my Secret Sister that SENT me the link to that tutorial....duhhhhh!!! I have a feeling "anonymous" is my Secret Sister, so THANKS for the kickstart!!! LOL
I used: Certainly Celery (card base and 1 piece 3 x 4 1/8), Close to Cocoa ( 3 1/2 x 4 5/8) and DP (2 7/8 x 4), all from SU. The ribbon is Old Olive poly twill which is amazing...so soft!! This is a great card for those small images!

Here is what you do: Using the 1 1/4" punch, punch a hole in the small piece of celery paper. Using the 1 3/8" punch, punch a slightly larger hole in the DP (being careful to line them up so it looks like a frame. Stamp your image on white (2 1/2" square) and attach it to the back of the small celery piece with pop dots. Attach the small celery piece to the small Close to cocoa with pop dots as well, then attach all of that to the celery cardbase. I masked the saying from the stamp when I stamped the frog, then masked the frog when I stamped the saying. I punched the saying out with the SU Word Window punch and attached it with a glue dot.

Another Father's Day card....

This is totally not how I planned this card in my head, but I kinda like how it turned out! The sketch is SC174 from SCS, which is a tall card (9 1/4 x 8; scored at 4, then again at 3/4" for the flap. The card base is Barely Banana and the DP is from Creative Memories. The elk stamp is from Wildlife Reserve - which I've had forever, but forget to use it...Donelda inspired me to pull it out again! Thanks girl!!! :D The "DAD" is from my new Verve Visual set, called Father Figure.

I have a table at a Farmer's Market in the small town that I grew up in, every Thurs. night - tomorrow night is the first one, so I've been prepping Mother's Day, Father's Day and Graduation cards. Although I don't feel 100% prepared, I hope I sell what I have!! Wish me luck!! I just finished 2 Mother's Day cards using the Women of Life set by Papertrey Ink. I will post them later, still have to take pics of them!!! Wish me luck tomorrow night - I need to make some money to pay for these dang supplies!!!! LOL

Kimmie's sketch challenge

Kimmie is having another High Hopes Challenge on her blog & here is my entry for it. The sketch was really fun. I used my new jewel tones DP from Creative Memories - it is such pretty paper I didn't want to cut it up!!!!

I'm sorry the photo is so dark - I used natural light, but guess it wasn't "light" enough!! I'll figure it out one day!!! The card base is Elegant Eggplant & there is one layer of Handsome Hunter - both SU. The stamp set is Merci, which was a Sale-a-bration set from SU. I added stickles and primas too! I kept the outside rubber from the die cut stamps and used it to mask the butterfly so there was an "aura" around it!!!

Anyways, I hope Kimmie likes this one!!! :)

Another Father's Day card

I made this card for a Monthly Bella swap I'm in on SCS - this month's theme was Father's Day. I saw one very similar on someone's blog & for the life of me, I CANNOT find out where I saw it...so if this is your idea....let me know & I will give credit where credit is due! I traced the lid of my embellisment holder to make the round card (Nestabilities were too small & I forgot I had the Coluzzle circles....oops), then ran the one side through my Cuttlebug with the Spots and Dots folder. I dirtied it up a bit, cut some grass, and used my Karen Foster snap stamps "FORE" the sentiment.
Here is the card opened - with a pop up golfer (Golfafella). I left the inside blank in case they didn't want to use it for Father's Day - it could be any type of card for a golfer. I've never made a pop up card - it was easy & kinda fun!! I could see myself making more kids' cards like this...they'd love it!!!

Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was good, busy....but worth it!! Friday night I stamped with friends for a few hours, then Sat. I went out to the Stampers Celebration in Airdrie with a couple friends - that was cool! We spent 3 hours there and there were only 7 vendors! THOUSANDS of stamps, new products, supplies, paper...it was awesome!! I spent a "little" bit of money (THANKS DONELDA!!!) but am happy with my purchases!! Now to find the time to play!!!! Today was my niece's First Communion then my whole family got together at my sister's acreage and sat outside in the sun! What a glorious day!! Wasn't too long ago I was complaining about the snow!!! NOW, I'm exhausted and NEED to clean my craft room before I can play with my new glitter!! Can't wait to share what I create!!!

VEGAS, here we come!!!!

Ok, it's not for awhile but we just booked the tickets today!!! I CANNOT wait!! I've never been there - mind you, I've never really been anywhere - except Disneyland when I was 10! Tim's sister is getting married there on Oct. 23 (a Thursday...odd eh??) so we are heading there Wed. night and coming home Sunday!! I am so excited!!! Tim did some searching for things to do & he found this tour - self- driven Hummer tour to the west end of the Grand Canyon - with a stop at Hoover Dam and a bunch of other places, lunch and a FREE COOLER BAG!!! WHHHHHHEEEEE HOOOOOOO!!!! LOL Anyways, it sounds totally fun - it's what I want to do and it's what Tim would like to do (amazing we found a compromise, seeing as he didn't even want to go!)....and it is $160/person, which isn't too bad for a day long trip! It was either that or an ATV tour for 3 hours in the desert for $300! EEK!!! I just want to SHOP!!!!! Just thought I'd share my happy news - Tim is grumbling about the whole trip but DAMN, I'm excited!!! He is such a home body!! ARGHHH!!!! We haven't even had a honeymoon yet!! sniff sniff :)

First Communion cards

Tommy, my friend Tracy's son, just had his First Communion last weekend, and my neice is having her's this Sunday, so I had to make a couple cards. I have the perfect Magnolia stamp for girls - Tilda wearing a cross - but was stumped for a "boy" card!! So, what I did.....don't laugh.....is I cut Tilda's head off, stamped Edwin's head and cut it out and glued it onto Tilda's body! I thought the outfit could suit a boy or girl regardless of the "head" that is on top!! Anyways, I think it turned out pretty well....what do you think??? The card base is River Rock and the DP is Apple Cider. I coloured his pants with OMS and prismas. The "celebrate" stamp is from Hero Arts and the clip is from SU's Hodgepodge Hardware. It is pretty plain but I really struggle with masculine cards.....usually ribbon or flowers do the trick!!! I think Magnolia should make a boy stamp just like this!!! Here is the card I made for my niece with the "real" head on the stamp. The card base is Elegant Eggplant & I used a piece of DP that I found in my scraps bin that was quite pretty and "heavenly" (LOL) I coloured her with OMS & my prismas & attached a tag with a silver clip. I didn't make it too religious, I probably should have, but I don't have any good sentiments for things like this! And normally little girls where frilly white dresses for their First Communion, but Tilda isn't so I figured I'd colour her in Darby's favourite colours! She looks like she is standing in a field of flowers! I cut her out and pop dotted her on the DP!

Faux Suede Father's Day card

I made this card for my Daddy, who was a mechanic (he's retired now!) He used to come home and his work boots, clothes and hands would be so greasy, I can still smell it to this day!!! I wanted to "dirty" it up a bit so I crumpled the image and used Walnut Ink to distress it. I distressed the edges of the white and Close to Cocoa with my Heidi Swapp Edge Distressor (scissors work just as well though!) I coloured the puppy with Gamsol (OMS) and prisma's. I used some scrap leather string I had for "man ribbon" (LOL) and attached it to the faux suede background. That is then layered on Close to Cocoa and then on Chocolate Chip. The image is from a SU set called For Father. The sentiment is from A little birdie told me (SU). Now, for the technique!!! FAUX SUEDE - so fun, so easy and the texture IRL is amazingly "REAL"!!! The photo doesn't do it justice so TRY this technique & you'll see for yourself!!

What you need:

wax paper, a brayer, liquid applique (I used brown here but I have all sorts of colours), heat gun, cardstock cut to size that you want to be "suede" (I used Vanilla), scrap paper to lay down to protect your work surface

What to do:

1. squirt some liquid applique (LA) on the wax paper (be generous)

2. roll your brayer in the LA & get it nice and covered

3. place cardstock piece on scrap paper and roll brayer onto cardstock covering it all up - it doesn't have to be evenly distributed just cover all the paper; add more if you need it; make sure there are no big "globs" or they will puff up and you want this fairly flat

4. Using your heat gun, heat up the LA - you will see the colour change when it is "done"

5. FEEL the texture - it is glorious!!! I LOVE this technique!!!

6. You can stamp right on the LA if you want or use it as a background base

That's it....easy eh?? Let me know if you try this - I'd love to see what you come up with!! There are lots of other great ideas in the SCS gallery if you want to check them out - I just did a search for Faux Suede and got pages of cards!!! HAVE FUN!!!!!

Penny Black birthday card

I made this card for Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #13 (TECC13) I used a card base from Michael's that was too cute to pass up (trying to USE up the things I have....and I have 3 boxes of the premade card bases!!!) and Groovy Guava paper and ribbon. The stamps are the new Penny Black clear sets that I just got and LOVE!! They are sooo cute!!!! You will see more of them from me!!!

This is another image holder card that I made to send with the Curious George images I'm sending to my good friend Donelda!! They are on their way to Innisfail, Alberta as we speak (well...maybe not, don't think the postal workers are at work today!!) I used Close to Cocoa paper and Close to Cocoa DP as well. The sentiment is from a Papertrey Ink set. I wanna see what you make with these images!!! Hope your son loves them!!!
